I came across Jenny of Elefantz site quite on accident one day. Not even sure what I was looking for but I love all of her very sweet embroidery projects. While I enjoy cross stitching it has been quite some time since I've done embroidery project. I figured there was no time like the present!
I wanted to start with something relatively easy but could used in a secondary project. Jenny presented the perfect project: a journal cover! More to the point, a cover for a worship/scripture journal. Her design is absolutely beautiful!
Of course I had to put my own spin on it! So I created a scrappy cover as well as changing up the colors a bit. Here's my version:

This was my first try at creating a journal cover. I'm quite pleased with most of the design, especially the little touches of cream lace. However, there are many areas I can improve.
I used interfacing (non-sewing) on the cover to add body. However, I didn't take into account I would need to top stitch and I had a bit of trouble. Plus I'm not too happy with some of the sloppiness due to my troubles. Plus when I ironed the front I caused a couple of wrinkles that are little bothersome aesthetically. The flaps didn't line up properly and is improperly attached in one corner. (No picture! I'll admit to the problem; just not take photographic proof!)
Overall I am pretty pleased with this project and plan to use it either with the Domestic Reflections series with Jenny or with my notes during Sunday service. I generally take notes (I was a student for 10 years!) but on my phone. I've found I don't go back to read through them though. Given it is already mid-February I had best make a decision!
Here's one more look at my journal ready to go!
