2016 Sewing Goals - Update

(c) Crafty Ashley B

It's bee nearly two months since I set my sewing goals. (Click here for that post.)

Here's a complete list of my goals as well their current status:

Goal 1: Complete my niece's twin quilt.
This is in progress with nearly all of the hand quilting done! Should be completed soon! I'm so ready to be done with it!

Goal 2: Start and complete my nephews' twin quilts.
Yikes! Not even started yet! Uh-oh! I am thinking that I will quilt-as-you-go to make it a little easier (and faster) to get to the boys!

2016 Sewing Goals

I wanted to share my sewing goals for this year even if we are already into April!

Goal 1: Complete my niece's twin quilt!

I'm a bit ashamed to admit that I pieced my niece's quilt in 2011!! Geez! That's FIVE years ago! my niece was two years old when I started it!

Luckily Tinkerbell and crew haven't changed a bunch in the last few years!! So the quilt still works! My niece is beyond ready to have her quilt!

I'm working on hand quilting it currently. It's slow going but nice to work on in the evening.

Basting the Tink quilt!

Goal 2: Start and complete two twin quilts for my nephews!

My older nephew, Tyler, still uses his crib quilt - his square blanket - but is quickly outgrowing it. My younger nephew, Teagan, very much wants his own "square blanket" and asks me repeatedly to make him one too.

I have purchased a good bit of fabric for the project: superhero fabrics - the Avengers, Superman, Batman, and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles; and their favorite colors - yellow and orange for Teagan and green for Tyler. I plan to add a bit of blue and red to even it all out.

Not sure how I will end up piecing the quilts but they need to be similar as the boys share a room. PLUS they have to have squares! I'm really leaning toward 9-patch or an economy block as it will use the superhero fabrics to their advantage.

Happy Baby Quilt Finish

.... and GIFTED!!!

I haven't had a lot of time to actually quilt but.... recently we had the Great Flood of 2016 in Louisiana! That resulted in three days of leave which equaled non-stop sewing and quilting!

My front steps!!
Yes, that bottom step is actually under water!

I've been working on hand quilting a twin quilt for my niece; a post for another day. But in the meantime I have a total of FIVE baby quilts that I'd like to sew up! I spent my rain days cutting, piecing, quilting, and binding a baby quilt! I even was able to gift it!

Two Hundred Twenty-Six

That's how many days it's been since I've hit publish on any post.

To be honest, it's been 196 days since I even hit the 'Blogger' quick link on my browser.

Why? I'm not even sure... Maybe I didn't want to see that my last post was the hardest one that I have ever written. Maybe I just didn't know what to write.

Life has changed a great deal since my Marcus passed on. Life is quieter with only one cat in the house: Sophie. Hubby and I are torn on getting another cat or maybe getting a dog. We like being a one pet household but we fear that SophieKitty is lonely by herself. If we got a dog I know he/she would likely come into work with me.

I received a promotion at work and now work with a number of at-risk students. It's sometimes draining but oh-so-rewarding job. I'm so glad I decided to step outside my comfort zone and apply for the job during the summer term. I started the job in the middle of the fall term so the start of the spring really opened my eyes to what my job really entails! Plus I'm getting involved with other departments on campus so I running everywhere!
